Some of the best vacations are the small ones that you take. Husband and I love to take 3 to 4 day (Fri-Mon) mini vacations that is within a 4 hr radius to us.
This way you get away for just a little while and leave behind all that stress from work. Since moving from Kentucky to North Carolina we have been able to travel more and enjoy nature. We love hiking in and around the Blue Ridge Mountains and visiting as many waterfalls as possible. 🙂
We just returned from a mini vacation in Rutherfordton, NC near Lake Lure, where we stayed at a VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owner) cabin that was on 80 acres of land. http://www.vrbo.com/3612593ha Man it was nice!! We didn’t want to leave and the owners are our new found friends!!
We’ve traveled the entire 469 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/ and many stop overs along the way. Meadows of Dan is one of our favorite stop overs. Love to visit with my new YARN friend Leslie Shelor of Greenberry House http://greenberrytest.blogspot.com/, and then there’s the little town of Floyd, VA which isn’t too far from Meadows of Dan. Found another YARN friend Michelle Morris of Woolly Jumper Yarns http://woollyjumperyarns.com/.
You never know where you may end up or who you can meet on these small trips. It’s good to visit and shop locally owned shops and farmers markets. So get out there and try some mini vacations and find that one special spot that will keep calling your name to return!
